The role of parents in education is frequently overlooked in the curriculum. Studies show that only 4% of teaching professionals today are mothers. This might be because most of the education institutes expect their teachers to be mothers too. But it could also be because women and motherhood are slowly gaining ground as a respectable role in the society. Educators need to include the role of parents in education so that students realize the importance of these people in shaping their lives and future.

A parent wears many hats for the kids, from being a friend to being a teacher, parents are just a whole world for a budding young child. Though there are career counsellors and teachers in the society, what is missing from the curriculum is focusing on the role of parents in education. It is estimated that over 90% of children face some kind of behavioral problems and this could be attributed to the absence of a parental guidance from the childhood. Without the parental guidance, the kids are at a great disadvantage and fail to attain success in school.

The first task of any educational program is to inculcate the basic values and virtues of self-discipline, critical thinking and good behavior in the children. These things can only be instilled by the parents themselves and they can do this by being active in early childhood and inculcating these values in their wards early. A parent’s informal involvement in his/her child’s life is very important and can explain the difference between good and bad behavior.

In the UK, where the parents are busy with everyday routines, they find little time to meet their kids and hence, it becomes extremely difficult to get in touch with them. Lack of early childhood education and consequent mal-functioning of kids is due to this lack of parental contact. In order to create a well-disciplined child, it is imperative to inculcate good behavior in him/her. This can be achieved through a proper communication between parent and child. A parent can provide an example or two so as to create good habits in his kid.

Proper parental involvement enables parents to know their child’s preferences, likes and dislikes. They can also play an active role in shaping his/her personality. At an early age, parents can start teaching their young children to understand boundaries. If they let their children roam around and ignore the consequences, then later they will realize that it was wrong. Parents can make their young children understand boundaries through games and playground participation.

Parents can also get involved in their child’s studies. When they take an active part in their child’s studies, kids enjoy doing their homework and getting involved in class work. So, parents who encourage their kids to do their schoolwork by themselves have ensured that their kids get involved in the learning process.

Early childhood education enhances critical thinking skills and promotes a love for learning. It also builds up self confidence and enhances a child’s capacity to solve problems. Parents should ensure that they give their full support to their kids in their early childhood learning programs. When parents work with the school authorities, it provides them a sense of involvement in their child’s education.

Remote Learning is beneficial for those parents who are working or are too busy to physically teach their children needed skills. Remote Learning enables them to still give their full support to their child thereby increasing their happiness and self-worth. Remote Learning Programs have helped many parents make their dream come true and give their children needed quality education.
